Secondary Cities Initiave

Secondary Cities (2C) is a field-based initiative of the Office of the Geographer to map for Resiliency, Human Security, and Emergency Preparedness. Esri South Africa hosted the Secondary Cities Technical Exchange.

The Humanitarian Information Unit of the Office of the Geographer and Global Issues in the U.S. Department of State launched the Mapping 2C initiative in 2015. Nigeria, Ethiopia and Cameroon have been selected for 2017. These three teams, Port Harcourt, Mekelle and Douala, will be trained and informed on capacity building activities that will address urban growth in their respective countries such as :

– using geospatial technologies,

– strengthen international partnerships, and

– create new data for under-mapped urban areas
